German illustration (May 1914) showing Mars as the heroic war god of old, while the new war god is depicted as diminutive, purse-headed figure with a pistol. The illustration is by Thomas Theodor Heine and was published on the cover of Simplicissimus, one of Germany’s most famous satirical magazines.
