Save the Serbians from cholera – American fundraising poster
American poster published in 1918 to raise funds for Serbia, where a cholera epidemic had broken out in the wake of the First World War. The poster shows a shadowy figure of death scooping up the dead from a scene of devastation. The poster calls for donations to the Franco-Serbian Field Hospital in New York. Design by Boardman Robinson, a Canadian artist and illustrator who travelled to Europe during the First World War and witnessed the war in Serbia, which suffered immense casualties during the war (later compounded by the cholera outbreak).
